Admissions Process

Adult Student

The adult (also known as general) student category is for people coming to the UK for post-16 education.
As an adult student, you must have:
30 points for a visa letter, which you get from your education provider and
10 points for having enough money (maintenance funds)

Initial Enquiry may be made by contacting the college on +44(0)2076396533 to receive detailed information on the college’s admission process.

An application form may then be downloaded from the school website http://www.lmcollege.com/ printed off and completed. An applicant is also required to make a non-refundable payment of an administrative fee of £350 at the time of submitting the application form which will form part of your first year of fees. The application form must be submitted along with all required supporting documents for the application to be considered for admission.

Supporting Documents to be submitted at time of application include:

  1. Applicant’s personal original bank statements covering a 28 day period ending no more than 1 month before the date of your application. The amount of funds required which should have been in the account for a minimum of 28 days before your visa application, should be the first year of fees (see section on Tuition fees for 2009/2010) plus £7200 covering expenses for the first nine months of study.
  2. Original certificates of all Qualifications held and/or original transcript of results including O level certificates, diplomas and degrees
  3. Two Academic References from most recent study
  4. For mature students, recent work experience evidenced by CV and employer’s reference
  5. Evidence of ability to communicate well in oral and written English Language e.g. Qualification taught in English
  6. Bank reference letter confirming funds in your personal account
  7. Executed Guarantor Bond for the entire duration of study - you should arrange this with your bank which gives the assurance that funds will be available to you for subsequent years for the duration of your study.
  8. Photocopy of International Passport
  9. 2 Passport photographs

Academic Reference must state the following:

  1. Your academic ability
  2. Your past achievement
  3. Behaviour
  4. Suitability for the proposed course of study

All supporting documents together with the completed application form must be submitted to the college before an Eligibility letter granting admission to the college can be issued.
Once you have been issued with the Eligibility Letter, you will need to make full payment for tuition fees covering the first year of your study which is inclusive of the £350 already paid for admission processing. A confirmation of receipt of first year of tuition fees will then be issued along with your visa letter which you will need to submit to the British Embassy along with all the supporting documentation itemised above. You will need to ensure at the time of submission that your personal bank statement showing as current balance the required funds (£7,200) is not more than a month old.
You will need to make sure that evidence of funds comes from a source that can be clearly identified and that it can be independently confirmed as being genuine. The college will verify the documents you submit and the British Embassy will carry out verification checks also.

If you are using overseas currency, the home office requires you to show (write on the document) the closing balance in pounds sterling. The Home Office uses the official exchange rate on the OANDA website, which can be found at http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic

Child Student

The child student category is for people coming to the United Kingdom to be educated between four and 17 years old.
If the Applicant is under 16 years old, only the visa letter need to be provided and no other supporting documentation need be provided.

If the applicant is 16 or 17 years old, all documents used in obtaining the visa letter must be included in your application to the British Embassy which should include:

  1. Original Certificate(s) of Qualification; and/or
  2. Original transcript of results;
  3. Visa letter.

If staying with a parent or legal guardian who will come with you to the United Kingdom:
A child must provide proof that the child has enough money to pay the fees and accommodation.

If staying with a resident British citizen or other United Kingdom resident who is a close relative:
A child must provide the Visa letter from the college
A written (undertaking) letter from the UK resident confirming the arrangement
A letter from the parent(s) or legal guardian confirming the arrangement
Proof to confirm the intended carer is allowed to be in the UK

A child student needs:
30 points for a visa letter
10 points for having enough money (maintenance funds)

For child student staying with a UK resident, funds must cover first year of fees, and £4500 agreed to be provided by the UK resident intended carer for living costs which must be shown on bank statement.
