| What is this course about? |
The OCR Level 2 Certificate for IT Practitioners (ICT Systems Support) has been designed to provide accreditation for the full breadth of essential knowledge, understanding and skills that would be needed by a competent employee engaged in the process of supporting ICT systems. |
| THE QUALIFIACTION IS SUITABLE FOR |
This qualification is aimed at those who already possess basic knowledge and understanding of ICT systems and who wish to extend their knowledge and skills. It is suitable for those who are already employed in system support and/or extend their work activities.
The qualification will also meet the needs of those who are studying in preparation for roles that will involve system support activities. |
| STATEMENT OF LEVEL |
| This qualification has been designed to assess skills and knowledge at Level 2 of the National Framework of Qualifications. The qualification has been designed to be comparable in demand to NVQs at Level 2, Higher Tier GCSEs (Grades C – A*) and GNVQs at Intermediate Level. |
| Entry Requirements |
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.
Although candidates may find it helpful to draw on previous experience and learning in the area of IT User, this previous learning is not a pre-requisite. |
| QUALIFICATION STRUCTURE |
| The qualification contains eleven units. In order to achieve an OCR Level 2 Certificate for IT Practitioners (ICT Systems Support), candidates are required to achieve three units – two mandatory units and one optional unit. However, each unit represents a worthwhile achievement in its own right and certification is also available at unit level. Candidates have the option of achieving either full qualification or one or more individual units depending upon their own learning needs or employment situation. |
| PROGRESSION |
The OCR Level 2 Certificate for IT Practitioners (ICT Systems Support) has been designed to support progression to qualifications at Level 3 of the National Qualifications Framework. Possible progression routes include the OCR Level 3 Certificate for IT Practitioners (ICT Systems Support) and Level 3 NVQs in installing and Supporting IT Systems, Operating IT Systems. Candidates who wish to demonstrate their practical skills at Level 2 in a workplace environment will be able to progress to the Level 2 NVQ in Installing and Supporting IT Systems and/or the Level 2 NVQ in Operating IT Systems.
Candidates who wish to extend their IT Practitioner skills to include software development will be able to progress to either VRQs or NVQs in this area; possible progression routes include the OCR Certificate for IT Practitioners (Software Development) at Level 2 or Level 3 and the NVQs in Developing IT Programs at Level 2 or Level 3. |
