Introduction
The aim is to deliver competence based training, as identified by Skills for Care and Development and Skills for Health, to match to job roles within health and social care. Also, it contributes to meeting government targets for training health and social care staff.
Who is it for?
This NVQ is for learners employed as health and social care workers within any health and social care provision, including:
• Primary Care
• Acute Care
• Mental Health
• Learning Disability
• Domiciliary care
• Residential care
• Day care

Progession

This qualification aims to enable learners to progress to further learning opportunities in areas such as:
• ASET Level 3 NVQ Health and Social Care, if appropriate for the job role
• ASET Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care (Adults/Children and Young People)
• ASET Level 2 Dementia Care
• ASET Level 2 Control of Infection and Contamination
• ASET Level 2 Managing and Safe Handling of Medicines
And other related Level 3 qualifications in Health or in Care, such as:
• Level 3 National Diploma in Health Studies
• Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Care Practice
• Level 3 National Certificate in Health, Social Care and Early Years
• Advanced GCE in Health and Social Care (Double Award)
• Advanced Subsidiary GCE in Health and Social Care
• Level 3 Diploma for Healthcare Assistants in Primary Care Practice

Structure

The qualification has core and optional units of which 6 units in total must be completed to achieve this NVQ.
• In Social Care settings all 4 Core units must be achieved plus 2 from the optional units.

HSC27 Support individuals in their daily living
HSC28 Support individuals to make journeys
HSC29 Support individuals to meet their domestic and personal needs
HSC210 Support individuals to access and participate in recreational activities
HSC211 Support individuals to take part in development activities
HSC212 Support individuals during therapy sessions
HSC213 Provide food and drink for individuals
HSC214 Help individuals to eat and drink
HSC215 Help individuals to keep mobile
HSC216 Help address the physical comfort needs of individuals
HSC217 Undertake agreed pressure area care
HSC218 Support individuals with their personal care needs
HSC219 Support individuals to manage continence
HSC220 Maintain the feet of individuals who have been assessed as requiring help with general foot care

Assessment

The NVQ candidate presents evidence to cover performance criteria and underpinning knowledge and understanding for the unit. The evidence is assessed and verified internally by occupationally qualified staff, and is subject to external verification by ASET.
