Introduction The aim is to deliver competence based training, as identified by Skills for Care and Development and Skills for Health, to match to job roles within health and social care. It will promote continual professional development. Also, it contributes to meeting government targets for training health and social care staff.
Who is it for?
This NVQ is for learners employed as health and social care workers in a supervisory role within the following health provision:

• Acute Care
• Mental Health
• Learning Disability
• Domiciliary care
• Residential care

Progession |
An increasing number of Level 3 learners are being accepted into nursing, social work and other health and social care related professions. Recommendations are for unit achievement for the same level to suit changing job roles, such as, working with individuals with learning difficulties, caring for the elderly, and for evidence of CPD.
Level 4 NVQs in Health and Social Care or Management are available, but whether you are able to do this depends upon your job role. In essence, your job role will enable you to achieve the units.

Structure |

The qualification has core and optional units of which 8 units in total must be completed to achieve this NVQ, 4 core and 4 optional units must be completed for each pathway. The units chosen must be appropriate for the work function and setting of the learners.
Some combinations of units are excluded, these are noted in the student induction pack.
It is important that the centre, in conjunction with employers, provides clear guidance to the learner for the choice of optional units.
Additional units may be selected for professional development, but do not count towards achievement of the qualification.

Assessment |

The NVQ candidate presents evidence to cover performance criteria and underpinning knowledge and understanding for the unit. The evidence is assessed and verified internally by occupationally qualified staff, and is subject to external verification by ASET.
