Introduction
This NVQ relates directly to the National Occupational Standards, developed by Skills for Care and Development, Care Council for Wales, Northern Ireland Social Care Council and the Scottish Social Services Council.
The aim of the NVQ is to enable staff in the health and social care sectors to be competent and skilled at delivering the quality services of care and support, as required by the Commission for Social Care and Inspections. This ensures that people who use these services are receiving the most effective level of support, enabling them to lead a more independent life.
Who is it for?
This qualification is suitable for those working in management and supervisory positions within Health and Social Care. |
Progession |
An increasing number of Level 4 learners are being accepted into social work and other health and social care related professions. Recommendations for progression are to gain unit achievement for the same level to suit changing job roles, such as, from working with individuals with learning difficulties to caring for the elderly, and for evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Essential functions include team building, communicating and liaising with external agencies and planning/management of the effective care for individuals they are responsible for Professional training, such as Social Work, Nursing or Occupational Therapy is also a possible progression route.
Qualifications in management including NVQs at Level 5 and Foundation or other Degrees are available. An individual's choice will depend on their job role. Examples include financial control, leadership and management of staff, performance management of staff, designing and implementing policies and procedures to fulfill legal requirements and good practice, such as Health & Safety and procurement and management of safe handling of drugs and quality assurance.

Structure |
Learners must take 10 units in total:
4 mandatory units plus 1 optional unit
from each of the 4 optional groups and a further 2 optional units from any optional group:

Assessment |

The candidate presents evidence to cover performance criteria and underpinning knowledge and understanding for each unit chosen. The evidence is assessed and verified internally by occupationally qualified staff, and is subject to external verification by ASET.
