Frequently asked questions

What are lessons like?

This is a revision course so you will meet again the main topics you covered at High School, making clear notes to revise from and practising questions to ensure that you have understood and can apply the ideas. You will do some practical work, including the coursework investigation. You will be introduced to a variety of revision techniques. You will be set homework and revision exercises on a regular basis. Marked work will be returned and discussed.

What do people do with GCSE Science?

It is very useful when applying for a job. It indicates to a future employer that the applicant is capable of logical reasoning.

Some successful candidates may go on to one or more of the Advanced Science courses at the College if they take the higher tier paper. GCSE single Science is a good foundation for AS Science for Public Understanding and BTEC Biomedical Sciences.

Are there any special entry requirements?

You will require to have already obtained grade D in GCSE Science; in exceptional circumstances students will be accepted with grade E. As this is essentially a revision course, it is important that you attend regularly and take an active part in lessons.

GCSE Courses at London Millennium College

GCSE courses are completed in 2 and a half terms at Worthing College and can be taken alongside other qualifications such as AS/A levels, AVCE's GNVQ's and BTEC qualifications.

Some GCSE subjects are essential for certain careers and you should always check out whether you have the necessary GCSE subjects at grades C and above for particular career routes that interest you.

Normally we expect you to have achieved a grade D in a subject previously taken at GCSE level at school if you are to have a realistic chance of success on a GCSE course at the College. However in the case of starting a language from scratch, such as Spanish or Italian it is not necessary to have attempted the subject before as long as you are competent in modern foreign languages.

There are sensible alternatives to GCSE qualifications, such as NVQ language units and Key Skills qualifications in Application of Number and Communication and the best route for you will be discussed at enrolment.
