HEALTH, SOCIAL CARE AND EARLY YEARS (OCR Level 3 National Certificate )

What is this course about?
The OCR Level 3 Nationals in Health, Social Care and Early Years have been developed to recognise candidates’ skills, knowledge and understanding of the health, social care and early years sector and settings, job roles, principles and values involved. They have been designed to accredit candidates’ achievements in a modern and practical way that is relevant to the workplace. They do not certificate competence on the job but are work-related qualifications, which will support progression to an NVQ once a candidate is in the workplace.

These qualifications specifically aim to

Develop candidates’ knowledge and understanding of the health, social care and
early years sector and the chosen specialist pathway if selected

Develop candidates’ skills, knowledge and understanding in contexts that are directly relevant to employment situations, thereby enhancing their employability within the health, social care and early years sector

Develop candidates’ ability to work autonomously and effectively in a health, social care and early years sector

Enable candidates to develop knowledge and understanding in specialist areas of health, social care and early years care and education, and demonstrate the skills needed to participate effectively in real situations

Encourage progression by assisting in the development of skills, knowledge and understanding that candidates will need to access further or higher education programmes or occupational training on a full-time or part-time basis

Encourage progression by assisting in the development of skills, knowledge and understanding that candidates will need to enter employment or enhance their current employment status

Promote interaction between employers, centres and candidates by relating teaching and assessment to real settings.

THE QUALIFIACTION IS SUITABLE FOR
Those studying in preparation for employment in the Health, Social Care and Early Years sector particularly in job roles where they will be expected to use their understanding of Health and Social Care principles and values, how they are used and the operations, activities and functions of care settings. This qualification is also suitable for those wishing to gain a Level 3 qualification to support further study in FE and HE.

STATEMENT OF LEVEL
This qualification has been accredited onto the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) at Level 3.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.

QUALIFICATION STRUCTURE
To achieve this qualification, candidates must complete a total of 18 units consisting of four mandatory units and 14 optional units

PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

A candidate achieving an OCR Level 3 National in Health, Social Care and Early Years has the following progression routes available:

Enter employment at trainee level, e.g. care assistant, playgroup assistant, healthcare assistant, nursing assistant, and nursery nurse officer.

Enter employment and undertake a related NVQ at a level appropriate to the job role, e.g. NVQ Care, NVQ Early Years Care and Education

Enter employment and undertake other related occupational qualifications

Undertake additional Level 3 qualifications part-time or full-time in further education, e.g. OCR Level 3 National Certificate/Diploma/Extended Diploma, AVCE, A Level

Undertake higher-level qualifications part-time or full-time in Further or Higher Education, e.g. HNC, HND, and Degree.
