EDUCATION

What is this course about?

The OCR Level 2 Certificate for Teaching Assistants has been designed to provide accreditation for the full breadth of essential knowledge, understanding and skills that would be needed by a competent teaching assistant engaged in the process of supporting teaching and learning in an educational environment.

The qualification has been designed to reflect good practice in supporting teaching and training and it is anticipated that much of the evidence presented by candidates will be generated through naturally occurring work activities. Evidence may also be generated through both formal and informal programmes of training (e.g. the DfES induction programme for teaching assistants) and through accreditation of prior learning.

The qualification contains four units. In order to achieve an OCR Level 2 Certificate for Teaching Assistants, candidates are required to achieve all four mandatory units. However, each unit represents a worthwhile achievement in its own right and certification is also available at unit level. Candidates have the option of achieving either the full qualification or one or more individual units depending upon their own learning needs or employment situation.

This qualification meets the requirements of the QCA Common Criteria for qualifications and the QCA criteria for vocationally-related qualifications.
